Prom is one of those memorable rites of passage that everyone should have the opportunity to experience during high school. I’m sure mine was memorable, I have the pictures that say so.
My kids are only 7 and 10, however, when their school asked me to help decorate their first ever prom for their graduating seniors, I couldn’t resist! The theme was Masquerade, in purple, black and silver, which turned out to be a beautiful spread of masks and feathers!
We had some awesome helping hands before the event!
We made damask favor boxes and filled them with silver and purple chocolates. Napkin rings were cut from the leftover scrap paper from the favor boxes and topped with ribbon. Each guest also received a Masquerade Ball key chain as a memento of the night.
Masks were a functional part of our centerpieces for the guests to have fun with and use in photos. In addition, we had a set of printable Masquerade themed Photobooth Props that were SO fun and just a bit silly!
The venue provided white table cloths – but they were a little stark. Purple satin runners were sewn from donated fabric and topped with our ever-so-versatile white wine bottles, to make up the foundation of our centerpieces. We wrapped the bottles with custom labels and topped them off with silver sparkly branches re-purposed from last year’s Holiday party.
Silver and black Masquerade masks were purchased for 1.50 each, and hot glued to wooden skewers. Half of the skewers were covered in black ribbon, half with leftover gray striped paper straws-for a touch of whimsy. We added a few feathers, votive candles and fabric netting to tie it all together. Simple, dramatic, and SO inexpensive!
The seniors had a BLAST, and if any of them send pictures, I’ll be sure to share them with you!
this is so darling.. what lucky promgoers. Love the purple and black, especially for teenagers (I have 3 teenage girls and consider myself and expert!)
Looks fabulous!! You did a great job with such short notice 🙂
Where did u purchase the masks from…. I love them
Hi Amanda… we have a local store here in Long Beach called Fabric Barn – its almost like a mini version of the downtown Los Angeles Fashion District (really small scale). hope that helps??
How did you get wine bottles s perfectly white?
hi rosie – they do look pretty good, right? we used probably 2/3 coats of plain old white spray paint – be sure to start with a clean and dry bottle first, and take the label off too.
We are doing a Mod Prom with the theme Masquerade this May. Do you have any other pictures?
hi Patricia, not a single one 🙁 it was a tiny little venue so there really wasnt much else anyway.
This looks great, where did you all get the invitations?
Hi Ron… I actually designed all the items here myself 🙂
