kid craft: gingerbread pillow

This isn’t an obsession, it’s more like a focused interest – on anything gingerbread! So while you’re getting into the Holiday swing with decorations, parties, and shopping- like we are– we’ve come up with this darling Gingerbread Pillow kid craft to add to the festivities! Using the same supplies as the Gingerbread Man Tote, here’s a how-to for our second way to do… Gingerbread.

What you will need:

– Gingerbread Template (download yours here)

– Buttons

– Ric-Rack Ribbon

– Embroidery thread or yarn (for sewing)

– Large Needle

– Scissors

– Glue

– 2 sheets of Brown Felt

– Batting or Stuffing

Place sheets of felt one on top of the other. Trace cut-out gingerbread template onto felt. Cut out gingerbread shape on both sheets of felt.

If you had any leftover tracing lines on your gingerbread, just turn over and use the blank side. Now for the best part- decorating! Decorate your gingerbread man however your heart desires! We decided to make our little gingerbread man… a cute little lady! If you’re feeling especially creative, you can also decorate the back side of your gingerbread pillow.

Once you have your cut-out decorated and the glue has dried, place on top of your back piece. Using a blanket stitch, sew around edges starting on one side of your gingerbread. Don’t have a clue how to blanket stitch? It’s okay, we had to refresh our memory too. Click here for a step-by-step instruction on how to do this easy stitch. You could also choose to do a whip stitch or plain old glue.

Once you’ve sewn about three quarters of your pillow, take a break from sewing and fill your pillow with stuffing. It’s up to you how much or how little you want to plump up your pillow!

Continue to stuff and sew until you’re entire pillow is full and come to life! Once you’ve gone all the way around and reached the beginning of your stitching, tie off string with a knot. Adjust any stuffing that might need it to even out your pillow.

And another easy kid craft complete. Enjoy your new Gingerbread Man (or woman!) and join us again for our 3rd and tastiest way to do Gingerbread!
