I swear. I’m not a party planner, I just play one on TV. A couple weeks back, my cousin contacted me to help out in coming up with some “corporate event ideas” to decorate at the hospital she works at for Nurses Day. You know, I do love a challenge, so of course I said yes! She didn’t have a theme in mind, but needed centerpieces for nine tables and a really nice candy table. For 800 guests. 800. Eight. Hundred.

So, playing the part of a party planner, I decided to use one of my favorite and most versatile themes, Imagine a Journey. This travel themed printable party has now been used a few times for actual events – a launch party showcase, a giant baby shower and to decorate a classroom.

First thing, I got on the phone with candy expert, and all-around sweetheart (pun intended) Marie from Sweets Indeed. She played an integral part in figuring out just how much candy one needs for 800 little favor bags. And the answer is, a lot! And then helped me to organize a “gummy-candy-party-favor-bag-stuffing-party”. it took 6 of us, six hours to do 800 bags with tags. PHEW! I also picked up the phone right away to giant-baby-shower-planner extraordinaire, Amy, to give me some tips, tricks and hand holding (not to mention paper suitcase borrowing) to pull this off.

Next, the Paper&Cake intern and I combed through every box in our storage area for every mason jar, milk bottle, soup can, crusty old crate, hat box, globe, and anything else we could think of that had a “Travel” vibe. I think we did pretty good – only purchasing bouncy ball globes, some hatboxes, a dozen white paper lanterns, the double sided frames, and some odds and ends to pull everything together.

Who else helped? Mollie from Hoopla Events -laughed at me first then- picked up the flowers, my mom who packed candy bags and came to set up day with me, and my husband- the BEST for playing “Tetris” with all the party supplies and candy to fit it in my car.

There was a lovely team of Nurse volunteers (including my cousin!) helping out with set up – the guys on lantern detail were especially patient with me! They ended up with a really beautiful event – complete with lunch, and laughs and even a photobooth. I hope all those invited felt the love that went into their event – and felt the appreciation that ALL of us have for our Nurses.
